I’ve had quite the relationship with this little camera. The Mexicanon is a small rusted chili can I found while camping in Mexico. When I found lying on the ground, I thought, “hmm, that looks like it would make a good pinhole camera”. Sure enough, I discovered later that a standard size business card would perfectly in the can. In order to use the can, I sanded most of the rust in the inside, painted it black and then put the pinhole in. I drilled a larger hole in the can then attached a pinhole that I had drilled into a piece of soda tin.
I cut fiber base matt finish Ilford multi-grade photo paper to size (3 1/2″ x 2″) in the darkroom, then store it in a light tight black plastic bag.
Using this camera is challenging though. Most exposure take about 2 1/2 minutes per exposure in shaded daylight. I’ve created a small travel kit for taking this on the road and can change the negative within a couple minutes using a changing bag.
